Our academy provides expert, hands-on gemmology training rooted in over 40 years of Sri Lankan craftsmanship and industry experience. We equip students with practical skills in identification, cutting, grading, and valuation to confidently enter the global gemstone trade.
1. Gem Identification and Valuation
Learn the essential skills needed to identify and assess the value of gemstones. This course covers:
- Introduction to gem identification tools and equipment
- Understanding gemstone characteristics (colour, clarity, cut, carat weight)
- Techniques for distinguishing natural from synthetic gems
- Valuation methods based on market trends and rarity
- Hands-on practice with real gemstones to test identification and valuation skills
2. Gemmology
This course provides an in-depth understanding of the science and art behind gemstones. You will gain the skills to:
- Study the formation and geological origins of gemstones
- Learn about crystal structures and properties
- Understand the optical and physical properties of gems, including refraction, dispersion, and hardness
- Work with advanced gem testing tools like refractometers and microscopes
- Explore the various gem treatments and enhancements
- Gain insights into global gem markets and pricing
3. Gem Cutting and Polishing
Master the fine art of transforming raw gemstones into polished, beautiful pieces. In this course, you’ll cover:
- Introduction to gemstone cutting and faceting
- Understanding different gem cuts (round, princess, emerald, etc.)
- Techniques for pre-forming, cutting, and polishing gemstones
- Use of gem-cutting machines and tools
- Hands-on experience with rough gemstones to create precise cuts and finishes
